Mishpacha Tree

Privacy

Mishpacha is private by default. Here is what that means in practice.

What we store

Your account holds your email address and display name. A tree holds its people: names, life dates and places, notes, relationships, and photos.

Local trees stay in your browser

A tree you keep without signing in is saved in this browser’s local storage. It is never sent to any server. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes it, so keep a backup of anything important.

Cloud trees — who can see them

A tree you keep signed in is stored in the service’s database. It is visible only to you and the relatives you invite — never to the public, and never used for advertising. You choose each relative’s role: viewers can only view the tree, editors can add and edit people. You can change roles or remove access at any time.

Service providers

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. The database, sign-in, photo storage, and invitation email are handled by Supabase. These providers process your data only to run the service for you.

Exporting, deleting a tree, deleting an account

You can export your tree at any time in five formats, including a lossless JSON backup and GEDCOM. Deleting a tree permanently erases its people, photos, and history for every member. Deleting your account is immediate and permanent: for each tree you solely own, you choose a new owner or erase the tree.

Backups

To protect against data loss, the service keeps backups of its database and photos, retained for up to 30 days. Information you delete may remain in backups until that 30-day window passes.
